Shakira - MTV Unplugged

Customer Review: Shakira again
Just okay in my book! I like her newer stuff much better! But cool to see her perform
Customer Review: Great live CD
I have bought this one, because in my opinion Shakira is the greatest artist of this century. After Oral Fictation 1 & 2, Laundry Service, Pies Descalzos and Donde Estan los Landrones this was the first live album that I've bought from her. I think I've already listened it for more than fifty times the last 3 months. Particularly this version of Estoy Aqui is very surprising.

While Wolfgang Mozart showed an amazing aptitude for music very early in life, he also displayed an absolute affinity for women. His charm was alluring, earning him the title, "The Most Kissed Boy in Europe."

Unfortunately, his adorable charm began to fade when, at age seven, he proposed to the future queen of France, Marie Antoinette, and was rejected. Things got worse when his girlfriend and the love of his life forgot him after his absence during a musical tour of Europe. She didn't even recognize him when he entered the room. Ouch.

Imagine, were he alive today, young Mozart could have tried courting 21st Century-style with a date at the movies. This teen was the type of courter who, eager to scoop a handful of bosom in the dark theatre, would employ the "stretch and clutch" maneuver.

This is a smooth and delicate movement where the suave pubescent pretends his arms need a stretch. After slowly lifting his limb closest to his target, he reaches around to her furthest shoulder and casually rests his hand there. Little by little he begins to feel the overwhelming force of earth's gravity as his hand creeps down.

This tactic sometimes backfires, leaving a buttery hand print across the attacker's doleful face and an angry phone call from the girl's father. In the event his device failed, he would have simply pursued her sister. It worked for him back in the 1700's!

Well, sort of.

His wife, the sister of the first "forgetful" girl, was described by him as "not ugly, but in no means a beauty." He went on to write, "She is not witty but has enough sound common sense to enable her to fulfill her duties as a wife and mother." Again, ouch!

Enough of Wolfgang. One fellow who never had any romantic charm to begin with was Franz Schubert, nicknamed "Little Mushroom" for his chubby stature, little round glasses, and shy, geeky nature. A crummy catch for most girls , he was a poor composer who couldn't even afford his own piano and composed his piano works on a cheap guitar.

At one point he thought the best way to woo a potential sweetheart was to write her a love song. Unfortunately, he couldn't sing to save his life ever since his voice broke at age 16. He devised a scheme where his friend, Schober, a handsome tenor, sang the tune to the girl with Schubert's piano accompaniment. Much to the mushroom's dismay, when the song was finished, the girl embraced Schober!

If only he were born in the mid-1900's, Schubert would have been much more successful in catching girls with his music. All he would have to do was holler out the song himself, strum a few chords on his Fender and gaze at her through his groovy, John Lennon-style glasses. The guy would have been a babe magnet, and I'd still love his music, be it changed.

Peter Tchaikovsky had disastrous relationships. His first marriage lasted only 9 weeks, which resulted in him trying to kill himself. Other affairs didn't get much better. He finally met a wealthy 46-year-old widow, but their relationship never went past writing letters for 14 years. They met once by pure accident and were so embarrassed that they ran in opposite directions.

Peter would have done very well had he the chance to date on the Internet. Thousands of on-line dating and matchmaker services offer a highly selective process in which the seekers specify the personality, physical appearance , income bracket and other details of themselves and their potential mates. Peter was a handsome lawyer who dressed very well and had expensive taste. This successful and famous musician was also sensitive guy who wasn't afraid to cry. This hunk would have cleaned house on www.composerdate.com.

Even if he chose to continue his relationship with the widow on-line, it would've saved him oodles in postage stamps and would have been much quicker than mail delivery in 1880's Russia. Maybe he could've gone a step further and picked up the phone, or even hopped on a plane to take a visit! It's these modern-day miracles in technology that could have bridged an awkward gap in poor Tchaikovsky's love life.

As I write this I think of what my love life would have been like if I lived in the time of the great composers. Chances are, I would've married for money, or worse, against my will, and life as a woman would have meant serving my husband and fifteen-plus children. At least my corset would've had me too breathless to complain...

Even though life seems to be more complicated in the 21st Century than ever before, I'm blessed to have a relatively simple life with endless opportunities and to have found love. It's not romantic, but it's simple, it's real and it's mine.

Customer Review: SAXOLOCO put on your dancin 'shoes
Im far from a Kenny G fan, but another late night comin home from a ballgame , another 6 innings at 3rd base gig, tired and on an adrenaline journey I had to wait 30 minutes, parked in my Metro Atlanta driveway! why?, this song reached out over WJZC and grabbed me by the collar sayin..."Hold on mon!! dis is a gateway tune!!! find out who this is, although Kenny's distinctive soprano sax shouldve alerted me. Gateway indeed, up temp and pleasantly surprising moving me from that post game mood into a grab my babe, put on my dancin shoes, and Brasilia, here we come!!! I could care less about the criticisms, the minutia or esoterica, by other reviewers of more "refined" jazz tastes.... these songs, individually, or collectively made me feel good, perhaps its cause my babe/lady/ wife is lightly latin and these songs got me ready to move n groove... SAXOLOCO was the door opener for a pleasently refreshing, mood enhancing experience for me/us.... Hey isnt dat what de moosic spose to do bro!!!! garmankirk
Customer Review: GREAT CD
I bought this CD for my parents who love to ballroom dance. THEY LOVED THIS CD!!!!!!

Proverbs come from the Latin word proverbium. It is a phrase that has a lot of meaning metaphorically. So if you want to tell somebody do not sit idle else it may work against you, you can say, "empty mind is a devils workshop" which means if you sit idle you will end up thinking and doing evil things.

If a proverb is distinct from others with good phrasing it can be termed as an aphorism. When a proverb is used to describe a rule of conduct, it can be termed as a maxim. Proverbs were generally derived from different cultures and human experience that came from seniors in the society who knew how a situation and how should it be dealt with.

The books of Proverbs from the Bible and Latin language from the medieval times have played a significant role in spreading proverbs. A few proverbs are mentioned below so you have a thorough understanding of these powerful sentences.

-A friend in need is a friend indeed.

This famous Shakespeare's proverb used in his plays meant if a friend helps you out in your time of difficulty then he or she is truly a good friend.

A burnt child dreads fire

When a person comes across an accident it changes the person's attitude, fears, likes and dislikes for life.

-First come, first served

This is a very common proverb. Used by retail outlets, as and when offers are given out. Sometimes even at one's home it may be experienced, as the person who comes in first may get served with a dish and the person coming in later may miss it as it is over.

-As you sow, so shall you reap

This proverb is taught to us in schools where we are taught to think right and reap its benefits. A similar proverb is what goes around, comes around.

Some more include:

-A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush

-Between the devil and the deep sea

-Birds of a feather flock together

-A rolling stone gathers no moss

-Every cloud has a silver lining

-Fire is a good servant but a bad master

-All that glitters is not gold.

Just to summarise proverbs are nothing but short sayings or short stories which we have learned in our child hood days just as the nursery rhymes

Ive been harping on the benefits of art and I thought I was tooting my own horn. So when I bumped into an article the other day written beautifully by Lisa L., a teenager from Wisconsin, I thought it was absolutely great. The article was entitled "Benefits of the Arts. While her article also discusses the benefits of music and dance, it speaks of all the arts and her words were more than perfect.

Her essay begins with The arts are an essential part of public education. That sounds like someone would like to do more dancing and singing in class. But, what it says to me is that Lisa understands that art benefits the students in ways few people realize. Lisa goes on to list all the ways in which art helps students develop. But, she mentions one sad fact that for some schools is already true. She is worried that the schools will cut art from the curriculum because of budget cuts.

Art helps students express themselves in ways they normally arent allowed. Classrooms dont offer much discussion and when they do, discussions still have to be monitored by the teacher. But, art allows a student to say what she wants to say. After all, why do you think Lisa wrote her essay? The art of self-expression through writing allows her to put concerns into print where others can understand her and possibly change what will be cut from the school curriculum because of her influence.

In our industrialized nation, we push the maths and sciences. We constantly make those subjects seem more important than all the rest because the political figureheads are convinced that math and science will solve all of our problems. We give scholarships out left and right to college students claiming a math or a science as a major. Other majors are forced to fight for the scraps. But, math and science are process skills.

When I wrote the Arts Most Fun Aspects I wrote about the left and right brain conflict. Art introduces different cognitive abilities that help us solve complex problems. It activates the part of our brain that works without words, but thoughts that cant be expressed in words. It activates the imaginative and creative side, the spatial and intuitive side. While math and science activate logic and analysis, process skills that are basically trial and error, art activates a way of thinking that surpasses normal thinking paths. Not every gap has to be filled. Not every t has to be crossed nor I dotted.

Thats how important art is to academics. Because of how it reaches into the brain, kids get better grades. They enjoy school more. They understand concepts with greater ease. They are more helpful to others who are struggling in school. Art solves problems and Lisa was trying to tell us that.

With money issues facing our schools, parents and teachers alike often find themselves battling uphill battles. As art is pushed to the backburner, parents will see a change in their kids attitudes toward school. Teachers will feel more challenged to meet their demands. But, there is a solution. If art is cut from the schools because of budget issues, parents will only be doing their kids a service by making sure they still have art in their lives.

An internationally known artist as well as a mother of six, Rivky Shimon founded Rivkys Art Workshop in New York. Rivkys step-by-step method for teaching children how to create and enjoy art has earned high praise from students, teachers and parents alike. Through her new training series, Rivky plans to teach artists from across the country how to duplicate her success. Not only to ensure that art education remains a vital part of every childs life, but also to enforce the reality that "The Rivky Method" tm works the same magic for adults as well.

Exitos en Video

Customer Review: Sound engeneer where are you?
The sound quality is horrendous, Mana make a lot of money off there fans I could not believe my ears. I end up play the cd and the videos Simultaneously to be happy. A live concert DVD is needed MANA.
Customer Review: Great Mexican rock band, great songs but...
When they made the DVD, there are some things they should have changed on it. If you're a Mana fan, you'll know all the songs. One live track, a cover of "El Rey" filmed in Montreux Switerland shows of Alex Gonzalez's drumming, something that doesn't come through on their studio tracks. As far as the videos themselves go, you see it going from something that is borderline public access video, to some embarrassing videos that are kind of humorous, to a more polished look towards the "Suenos Liquidos" videos, where it ends. Nothing from "Revolucion de Amor" or their song with Carlos Santana "Corazon Espinado" (which is on Carlos' "Supernatural" DVD) is included. Here's the complaints that I found more annoying than anything: the cover of Led Zeppelin's "Fool in the Rain", straight off of the "Econium" tribute video is them in the studio talking about recording the song. It either should be the full song or in the "extras". It's something that you wind up forwarding and gets annoying real fast. "Clavado En Un Bar" has 5 minutes of the "making of", yet you can't skip the making of, you have to forward it. Another one that belongs in the "extras". It's something that we should be able to enjoy with the TV on or off. The "in betweens" can get a little noisy at times but isn't a big deal. It's not in Surround Sound, but you can hear it playing in all the speakers. I'd like to see them revamp this one a little bit to make it more "DVD-friendly" and put out a live DVD which shows off how great they are in concert. Even if you don't understand Spanish, the music alone is good enough to enjoy...

Nueva York!

Children's favorite Dan Zanes follows his 2007 Grammy Award winning CD Catch That Train with a collaboration with Latino musician friends from New York. These family songs, all sung in Spanish, represent various styles including son jarocho, cumbia, aguinaldo, bailecito, nueva canción and merengue. Featured guests include: Lila Downs, Daphne Rubin-Vega, The Villa-Lobos brothers, Marc Ribot and Afro-Colombian roots ensemble La Cumbiamba Eneyé.
Customer Review: Fanaticos thinks it's fantastico!!
My son is a Dan Zanes groupie (he's been to six of his shows). He's been listening him since before his second birthday and has been looking foward to new music for quite some time. My son is half Cuban, so hearing DZ sing in Spanish is very significant for him. It's a welcome addition to our Dan Zanes and Friends collection. In short, this cd is like a big party for my three and a half year old, yet sophisticated and cool enough for his parents!!! ViVa Dan and Friends!!
Customer Review: More great music for EVERYONE (this time in Spanish)!
Dan Zanes and Friends latest release features all that you love about the band: wild, energetic collaborations and quieter songs with tremendous raw beauty. Esta vez, todas las canciones están en español! They've come a long way since "Malti." This collection of favorites from several Latin American countries is, as Dan says in his concerts, his pro-immigration CD. Thanks, Dan, for giving our kids a great time while provoking interest in Hispanic culture and vital social issues. Our faves: El Pescador, Son Borinqueno, Colas, Verde Luz, El Pijul,El Canario, Cuida El Agua, & Mi Luna. Yikes, that's a lot of favorites! If Pollito Chicken doesn't get you moving, see a doctor!

That's right party people. If music is the food of love, then play on! Hyd knows how to party, and also knows its music. From lazy lounge to heart thumping electro techno, the DJs in clubs and pubs in Hyderabad spin it all. There's something for everyone. So if you're a music aficionado who knows the beat per minute of your favourite song, or just a regular party-hopper, you won't be disappointed.

But just to make it easier, we're giving you the lowdown on what type of music plays where; so you can pick and choose the party destination according to beats you want to swing to. Remember though, that a club may decide to play one or more of the genres below, so this is in no way a restrictive list. It's more of a guide to the popular joints in Hyd to dance to the different kinds of music we all love.

A- Alternative...Alternative Rock is not very groovy to dance to, so the only time you may hear bands like the Foo Fighters or Linkin Park play is if the place is playing Worldspace! But if you're really keen, pubs like 10 Downing Street (10 D) MAY just play some Alt rock, but ONLY during afternoons!

B- Bhangra...Bhangra has gone global and is a definite fixture in most club DJ sets. One can jump to Punjabi MC on Bollywood Nites in Bottles & Chimney (B &C), 10 D, Myst and sometimes even Ahala.

B-Bollywood...Get one thing straight. Bollywood remixes rock and we love them. So they're always going to be there. Almost every happening party will have some cool Bollywood remixes thrown in for some good ol' Desi flavor. Specialists are B&C and Ahala, especially on dedicated Bollywood nights.

C- Club...Club music is currently the rage of the Hyderabad night life. From sexy remixes of Justin Timberlake to hardcore Club legends like Benny Benassi, clubs such as Touch pump up the revelers with club tracks. Ahala is another cool place to check out some vibrant sounds.

D-Dance...Dance and Club are pretty similar, so the clubs that play the former would play Dance as well. Wednesday nights in Touch, Ahala, F Bar as well as other places such as Soul, Myst and Firangi Paani would be a good choice.

E-Electro...B&C and Liquids are known to play Techno every once in a while. But Electro is as popular as Dance/Club. Touch and Ahala also play Electro, but only a few electro tracks would be squeezed in, so don't count on a complete night of Electro!

H- Hip-hop...50 Cent, Kanye and other gangstas also make us jump, so the DJs in B&C, Firangi Paani and Ahala will play a good measure of some hip-hop to all you playas!

L - Lounge...Touch owns this genre. DJ Yogi will spin some cool lounge for all the party people every Saturday night, but it'll be during the beginning of the night. Later on, more energy is infused by playing primarily Club music. Ahala, Liquids (especially on Friday nights) and Sixth Element will also play some cool soothing Lounge music, ideal for an unwind session.

R- Rock... Rock can never die. So pubs like 10 Downing Street and Firangi Paani give you enough reason to drink another pint while the cool riffs of Pink Floyd, the Scorpions and Guns n Roses pipe through the speakers. Retro nights in 10 D are specially worth checking out, if you're a true "Rock star" at heart. Ahala and Touch will play remixes of rock tracks, but not pure rock as such.

So there you go. A complete guide to what's playing where to help you decide which pub to hop to this weekend!

MUSE - Pose - Pink 30 S Ringspun T-shirt

Brand New, never worn 100% cotton front and back print Authentic MUSE T-shirt.

One of the most popular, if not the most popular, shows among kids is High School Musical. This show now has two movies, with a third on the way, and has become an unbelievable phenomenon that has made stars out of the actors in the show, and turned millions of kids onto music.

Obviously, when something becomes this popular, it is only a matter of time before your kids start asking for a High School Musical-themed birthday party. So what ideas are good for this type of birthday party? Below are just a few examples.

Send The Invites

You can go two routes in terms of invitations. You can use invitations that come with the High School Musical party supplies, or you can go a step further just by using your computer. Print off tickets for the kids so they can take the tickets with them and get entry into the party at your house. Make it look like they are tickets to a special High School Musical show, starring your child. If a child forgets to bring their invite, no worries, let them in. You can even stamp their hands for reentry, just to add a bit more style to the whole thing.

Watch the Movies

What would a High School Musical-themed birthday party be without watching the movies? So, rent the movies, if you don't already own them, and treat the kids to the movies while you prepare the rest of the birthday party. It is up to you if you want to show both of the movies, or just one of them. If you only have time for one, ask the kids which one they want to see and then go with that one for the kids to watch.

Dance Competition

One big thing about High School Musical is the dancing. Everyone in the movies dances, so get the kids dancing too. You can even have a dance contest that will have the kids showing their stuff on the dance floor. At the end of the dance contest, award everyone an individual award so that no one feels out of place. You can range it from "Best Dancer" and "Killer Moves!" to "Wackiest Dance" and "Future Star!"

High School Musical is unbelievably popular and if your child wants a High School Musical-themed birthday party, you need to be ready to provide it. However, thanks to creativity and some birthday party supplies, you can create a birthday party they will remember for a very, very long time.

Def Jam Recordings - TONE ARM T-shirt , Maroon

Def Jam was founded by Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin in Rubin's dorm room at New York University. The first releases on Def Jam Recordings were LL Cool J's I Need A Beat and the Beastie Boys' Rock Hard, both in 1984. The singles sold well, eventually lea

While watching Monday night football, on an uneventful evening on December 8, 1980, I was nursing a hangover, when I heard Howard Cosell interrupt the game with a news flash. John Lennon was shot in New York City? Could that be true? It was true. Later, he was pronounced dead. I was in shock. Then my brother, Mark, telephoned me with the news. We both were John Lennon fans.

The Beatles, the fab four of the 60s, were each given character descriptions or nicknames adopted by their fans. John was the smart one, Paul was the cute one, George was the mysterious one and Ringo was the funny one.

I always felt John Lennon's character description or nickname, should have been dubbed the "misunderstood Beatle," because he seemed to always stir up controversy concerning his beliefs. He couldn't quite make his comments clear, and the media didn't help.

Take for instance, the comment he made on March 4, 1966, when he said, "the Beatles are more popular than Jesus." What he meant was that more people would go see the Beatles, than go to church on Sunday. Which may have been true. He generalized a wee bit by laying the blame on America, when he meant England.

Lennon was interviewed for the London Evening Standard by Maureen Cleave, who was a friend, and made an off-the-cuff remark regarding religion. Lennon said, "Christianity, will go. It will vanish and shrink. We're more popular than Jesus now; I don't know which will go first-- rock and roll or Christianity. Jesus was all right but his disciples were thick and ordinary. It's them twisting it that ruins it for me."

On August 11, 1966, The Beatles held a press conference in Chicago, in order to address the growing furor.

Lennon: I suppose if I had said television was more popular than Jesus, I would have got away with it, but I just happened to be talking to a journalist friend (Maureen Cleave), and I used the word "Beatles" as a remote thing, not as what I think--as Beatles, as those other Beatles, like other people see us. I just said they are having more influence on kids and things than anything else, including Jesus. But I said it in that way, which is the wrong way."

Reporter: Some teenagers have repeated your statements--"I like The Beatles more than Jesus Christ." What do you think about that?

Lennon: Well, originally I pointed out that fact in reference to England. that we meant more to kids than Jesus did, or religion at that time. I wasn't knocking it or putting it down. I was just saying it as a fact, and it's true more for England than here. I'm not saying that we're better or greater, or comparing us with Jesus Christ as a person or God as a thing, or whatever it is. I just said what I said and it was wrong. Or it was taken wrong. And now it's all this.

Reporter: But are you prepared to apologize?

Lennon: I wasn't saying whatever they're saying I was saying. I'm sorry I said it really. I never meant it to be a lousy anti-religious thing. I apologize if that will make you happy. I still don't know quite what I've done. I've tried to tell you what I did do, but if you want me to apologize, if that will make you happy, then OK, I'm sorry.

John Lennon returned to the subject later that year, when he told Look magazine that, "I believe Jesus was right, Buddha was right, and all of those people like that are right. They're all saying the same thing--and I believe it. I believe what Jesus actually said--the basic things he laid down about love and goodness--and not what people say he said. If Jesus being more popular means more control, I don't want that. I'd sooner they'd all follow us even if it's just to dance and sing for the rest of their lives. If they took more interest in what Jesus--or any of them--said, if they did that, we'd all be there with them.

Although there was little reaction to his statement in England, Christians elsewhere embarked upon a massive campaign to destroy Beatle albums and other paraphernalia. The Archbishop of Boston admitted that he was probably right, but many still refused to forgive him.

I can relate to his controversial statement, because I have made similar statements, such as, when I drive by a gambling casino on a Sunday, I'll say--"look at all those cars--try to pack them in a church parking lot." Of course, my meaning was that gambling is more popular than Jesus. I hope that isn't the truth--here in America. Am I in trouble for saying that?

All this didn't bother Lennon, he continued using religious remarks in his songs, one was God, released in 1971. The lyrics are as follows:

God (words and music by John Lennon)

God is a concept

By which we measure

Our pain

I'll say it again

God is a concept

By which we measure

Our Pain

I don't believe in magic

I don't believe in I-ching

I don't believe in bible

I don't believe in tarot

I don't believe in Hitler

I don't believe in Jesus

I don't believe in Kennedy

I don't believe in Buddha

I don't believe in mantra

I don't believe in Gita

I don't believe in yoga

I don't believe in kings

I don't believe in Elvis

I don't believe in Zimmerman

I don't believe in Beatles

I just believe in me

Yoko and me

And that's reality

The dream is over

What can I say?

The dream is over

Yesterday

I was a dream weaver

But now I'm reborn

I was the walrus

But now I'm John

And so dear friends

You just have to carry on

The dream is over

THE END

Once again, Lennon was misunderstood. He was put off by many Christians. I always understood the style of Lennon. I felt he was reaching out to question things we dared not ask. He was a buffer between reality and make believe. Some considered it threatening. I considered it harmless. Although he did say "I don't believe in Jesus." And he did say, "I don't believe in bible." Maybe he should have left them out of the song, at least to avoid controversy and save his career.. But, Lennon was Lennon, and he didn't care. He was saying he has the freedom to say what he wants to say, or sing what he wants to sing. I'm sure it hurt his career. Paul McCartney's career only blossomed. Not intending to leave out George and Ringo. Their careers remained stable.

I always thought a more fitting song for John Lennon would have been--Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood, written and performed by a fellow musician and friend, Eric Burdon. He, also, authored a book under the same title.

In 1973, Lennon wrote and sang the song, Imagine, a very critical-- but popular song. It questioned the existence of heaven and hell and no religion, too. This, too, was angered by Christians. His message was clear to me. He was simply stating, if there wasn't any of these things he's imagining, the world would live in peace--as one. What would there be to fight about? There would be no wars. Many wars are about religion. The song is all about imagination. He's not a terrorist wanting to blow up the world. The lyrics are as follows:

Imagine

(words and music by John Lennon)

Imagine there's no heaven

It's easy if you try

No hell below us

Above us only sky

Imagine all the people

Living for today

Imagine there's no countries

It isn't hard to do

Nothing to kill or die for

And no religion too

Imagine all the people

Living life in peace

You may say I'm a dreamer

But I'm not the only one

I hope someday you'll join us

And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions

I wonder if you can

No need for greed or hunger

A brotherhood of man

Imagine all the people

Sharing all the world

You may say I'm a dreamer

But I'm not the only one

I hope someday you'll join us

And the world will live as one

THE END

Lennon was always the outspoken one. Some say he was a hypocrite when he preached about love and peace--not war. In 1969, he demonstrated his beliefs in his penned song, Give Peace A Chance, after his departure from The Beatles, during his solo career.

He defended many rights and causes. He was an anti-war activist. His beliefs were misconstrued and often he was taken as a socialist or communist. President Nixon wanted him deported. Lennon stood up and fought for his right to stay where he loved to be--in New York City, U.S.A. Sadly enough, it was also the place he was killed by a deranged fan.

During his solo career, Lennon wrote and sang songs of rebellion with his political views. He would socialize with antiwar leaders, such as, Jerry Rubin, Abbie Hoffman, and others. Lennon and his friends organized a concert in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in December of 1971, dubbed the "Free John Sinclair" concert. Sinclair was a local antiwar activist who was serving ten years in the state prison for selling two joints of marijuana to an undercover cop. Lennon appeared onstage along with Phil Ochs, Stevie Wonder and other musicians, plus antiwar radical Jerry Rubin and Bobby Seale of the Black Panthers. There was 20,000 in attendance; two days after the concert, the state of Michigan released John Sinclair from prison. During this time, a song written and sung by Lennon was released, entitled John Sinclair.

In 1972, Lennon released an anti-sexism song, entitled, Woman Is The Nigger of the World, implying that as black people were discriminated against in some countries, so were women globally. The lyrics are as follows:

Woman Is The Nigger of the World

(words and music by John Lennon)

Woman is the nigger of the world

Yes she is...think about it

Woman is the nigger of the world

Think about it...do something about it

We make her paint her face and dance

If she won't be a slave, we say that she don't love us

If she's real, we say she's trying to be a man

While putting her down, we pretend that she's above us

Woman is the nigger of the world...yes she is

If you don't believe me, take a look at the one you're with

Woman is the slave of the slaves

Ah, yeah...better scream about it

We make her bear and raise our children

And then we leave her flat for being a fat old mother hen

We tell her home is the only place she should be

Then we complain that she's too unworldly to be our friend

Woman is the nigger of the world...yes she is

If you don't believe me, take a look at the one you're with

Woman is the slave to the slaves

Yeah...alright...hit it!

We insult her every day on TV

And wonder why she has no guts or confidence

When she's young we kill her will to be free

While telling her not to be so smart we put her down for being so dumb

Woman is the nigger of the world

Yes she is...if you don't believe me, take a look at the one you're with

Woman is the slave to the slaves

Yes she is...if you don't believe me, you better scream about it

We make her paint her face and dance

We make her paint her face and dance

We make her paint her face and dance

We make her paint her face and dance

We make her paint her face and dance

We make her paint her face and dance

THE END

On a happier note, in 1971, Lennon, also, wrote and sang the song, entitled, Happy Xmas. This became a holiday favorite. It's questionable why he left out Christ in Christmas. But "X" is the Greek symbol of Christ.

This year marks the 26th anniversary of the death of John Lennon. His killer is still imprisoned, as he should be. The music world was robbed of this musical genius. I sure miss his works and imagination. If it weren't for his outspoken beliefs, he may have still been with us today. It may have been what killed him. But just imagine (I wonder if you can)--then there never would have been a John Lennon.
